Turkish psychological thriller "Seni Tanıyorum", released internationally as "Not a Stranger", has quietly developed into one of Netflix’s most notable Turkish success stories of the year.
The eight-episode series premiered globally on September 17, 2026, without the kind of international hype usually associated with Netflix’s biggest launches. Yet strong word of mouth quickly pushed the drama beyond its domestic audience and into Top 10 charts around the world.

A Breakout in Its Second Week
The numbers tell the story clearly. During its first four days on Netflix, "Not a Stranger" recorded 4.6 million views. Its real breakthrough came the following week, when viewership more than doubled to 9.7 million between September 21 and 27. With 65.7 million hours watched during that period, the series climbed to No. 1 on Netflix’s Global Non-English TV chart.
Across its first 11 days, "Not a Stranger" accumulated 14.3 million views and nearly 97 million viewing hours, making it one of the strongest recent international launches for a Turkish Netflix production.
The series has also performed strongly far beyond Turkey. It topped Netflix’s television chart in Turkey during its second week and reached No. 6 on the overall TV ranking in the United States — a particularly significant result for a Turkish-language drama competing directly with major English-language productions.
Created and written by Tuğba Doğan and directed by Mert Baykal, "Not a Stranger" stars Elçin Sangu, Melis Sezen and Ozan Dolunay.
A Psychological Drama Built on Mistrust
The psychological drama follows Funda, played by Elçin Sangu, a new mother who has put her career as a painter on hold after giving birth. Hoping to return to her artistic life, she hires Nazlı, played by Melis Sezen, as a nanny. What initially appears to be the perfect solution soon turns unsettling as Nazlı’s mysterious presence begins to disrupt the lives of Funda and her husband İlker, played by Ozan Dolunay.
Rather than relying on large-scale action or spectacle, the series builds its tension around intimacy, mistrust, desire and secrets within the home. That relatively simple premise appears to have translated effectively across different markets.
Netflix itself highlighted the show’s rapid rise after it reached the top of the non-English television chart, suggesting that "Not a Stranger" is no longer simply a successful Turkish release but a genuine international breakout.
Whether that success will lead to a second season has not yet been officially confirmed. For now, however, "Not a Stranger" has achieved something increasingly valuable in streaming: a local story that has managed to find a global audience largely through momentum and word of mouth.
