There was talk that the Çetin İkmen novel series The Turkish Detective written by Barbara Nadel would become a serial in the past years. According to Deadline’s exclusive news, the project has been approved by Paramount+, one of the digital platforms in the USA. The leading actors of the series, which is planned to be screened in 2023, have been announced.

The shooting of The Turkish Detective series, which will feature Haluk Bilginer, Ethan Kai and Yasemin Kay Allen, will begin in Istanbul this month. The series written by Ben Schiffer will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev, whom we know from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The series will be produced by Miramax, Ay Yapım and ViacomCBS Int’l Studios.

Set in Istanbul in today’s time and reaching 24 novels, the CWA Silver Dagger award-winning series tells the story of Çetin İkmen and his partner Mehmet Süleyman solving the crimes committed in the city. Barbara Nadel, who comes to Turkey frequently because her family lives in Istanbul, had previously stated that she had chosen Istanbul to be the scene of her novels, despite the negative perspective of the publishing house.

Haluk Bilginer will give life Çetin İkmen in the series, while his partner Mehmet Süleyman will be played by Ethan Kai. Yasemin Kay Allen will play Detective Ayşe Farsakoğlu, who helps them solve crimes.
